Project timeline
2015 - 2017
Veja Mate is a 402 MW offshore wind farm located in the German Exclusive Economic Zone of the North Sea. The project comprises 67 Siemens SWT-6.0-154 direct-drive wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 6 MW, installed on monopile foundations at water depths of 39–41 metres. At the time of construction, Veja Mate represented one of the largest offshore wind projects in the German North Sea.
Survey Association was appointed as Marine Warranty Surveyor for the full construction scope of the Veja Mate project. This encompassed the review and approval of method statements and marine operations procedures across all major construction phases, including monopile installation, turbine installation, substation works, and inter-array cable installation.
The role focused on ensuring that all offshore operations were conducted in accordance with industry best practices and within the risk appetite agreed with underwriters — while working collaboratively with the project team to maintain momentum on an ambitious construction programme.
Veja Mate was commissioned on 31 May 2017, with all 67 turbines delivering power to the German grid. The project was completed almost four months ahead of schedule and within the agreed CAPEX budget. Survey Association completed the full MWS scope with no insurance claims raised during construction — a testament to the collaborative approach taken between the MWS, the project team, and underwriters throughout the project lifecycle.
