Survey Association awarded Marine Warranty Surveyor contract for Veja Mate offshore wind farm

15 January 2016

January 2016 — Danish Survey Association has been awarded the marine warranty surveyor contract on the offshore wind farm project, Veja Mate, in the German part of the North Sea. The million DKK agreement is a milestone in Survey Association’s global growth strategy and is also the company’s largest single contract in its 100-year history.

As Marine Warranty Surveyor, Survey Association is appointed as the insurance underwriters’ representative to ensure that the project follows good industry practice and that potential risks are reduced to an acceptable level. The agreement marks that Survey Association is well on its way to achieving its growth strategy, with this line of business alone set to double in turnover within the next five years. Today, offshore wind energy represents about 20 percent of Survey Association’s turnover.

We have advised on offshore wind energy for more than ten years, but it has been on smaller parts of the large wind projects. This agreement is a milestone as it is our first big, complete offshore wind project and it is thus the beginning of our ambition to double sales in this area within the next five years. We generally experience a demand for our Scandinavian approach and hands-on maritime experience, which has also been crucial in this case,

said Henrik Uth, CEO of Survey Association.

Pragmatic maritime approach as a key factor

The Veja Mate project, owned by Highland Group Holdings Ltd., Siemens Financial Services, and Copenhagen Infrastructure II, chose Survey Association for its maritime approach.

We have had positive experiences with Survey Association through several previous collaborations and it has played a key role in our decision that Survey Association and its consultants stem from a pragmatic maritime background. This will be valuable in ensuring the project is carried out successfully,

says Henrik Scheinemann, CEO of Veja Mate Offshore Project GmbH.

The work on the Veja Mate project has already begun and will proceed until the opening of the wind farm by the end of 2017. In addition to supporting clients in the construction of offshore wind farms and the movement of drilling rigs, Survey Association also works as technical experts in the marine area, for example at large marine accidents or major transport projects.
